computer down

Well, life's so good here we never want to take time to update this blog. This post does not break from that mentality, and while it is not an update, it is an excuse as to why future updates will likely be delayed. Our computer won't boot windows. We simply get a message at the top of a black screen that says "missing operating system." I can't even get into bios (unless I'm not doing it right). We welcome all bright ideas and extra copies of windows disks. We may even welcome a new hard disk.

new place, new pace

We have moved to Cache Valley. Now that I'm out of school there seems to be a lot more going on worth writing about. Here is some of what we've done so far.

Fixed up an old swing set the old tenants left.

Played in a wagon.

Sat in a tire.

Jumped.

Got wet.

Had some baths.

Scored a truckload of candy at the Wellsville Founders Day parade.

Donned and doffed our dinner dish (but the food stayed on).

And finally, tonight we had an inspiring family home evening lesson delivered by James.

Yosemite and other places

Our first "no kids" trip. We started our trip with a stay in Reno with Jeff's brother Kevin and family. They have a darling home that could compete with any bed and breakfast around. As we drove by Lake Tahoe, we decided to pull over and jump in.

Yosemite. We camped in the park and spent the days hiking and hiking. Some folks from India took this photo for us. We felt like natives with all the International company.

A sequoia tree and me in Yosemite
We loved these giant fairyland trees.

A tunnel was carved in this sequoia to get a horse and buggy
through in the early 1900s.

Jeff is a bit smaller than this tree.
Our favorite hike in Yosemite was up to Vernal Falls.

After a night below freezing, Jeff coaxed me out of the tent with a fire and breakfast.

But he also coaxed me into a freezing ocean in Monterey. No one else thought it was warm enough to swim.

After seeing China Town in San Francisco, we decided to eat at an Indian restaurant.

We're glad to be back in Utah. We came back to Provo and then moved a week later. Thank to those who helped us pack up and move. You were helpful and in good spirits.

And finally, we've felt the longing to nurture a newborn again and are expecting a little one the end of February/first of March.

Time for June

Here's a little bit of last month. Mostly it was birthdays. Sorry about the lame captions; studying for the bar has sapped my wit.

James doesn't always wear pants these days.

Can't wait til we move somewhere that has a real bathtub.

Like father like son. I spent most of my childhood filling the sandbox with water.

Emily made an Elmo pinata for James's birthday.

I decorated the cake.

Grandma Bev sent a box full of flying styrofoam.
(Well, we made it fly)

I made the kids clean it up.

Under all the styrofoam we found other great presents.

James and I built a box at Home Depot.

Emily had to catch a phone call, so James took over feeding Rachel.

I guess James decided his bed was too far from Rachel's.

Catching up on May

It's been a couple months. We'll see what we can do for catching up here.

First, this video of James identifying the First Presidency on May 10.

May 11--hot dog/marshmallow roast up Provo Canyon. This is how they do it in the city where there's no such thing as firewood.

This is how Rachel felt about not getting to roast anything.

May 22--hike to Timp Cave
(If anyone so much as thinks of submitting this next one to the failblog as a parenting fail, consider yourself uninvited to view our blog in the future.)

May 24--for Memorial Day we were headed north to visit some cemeteries, but as we pulled out of the driveway, it turned out we had a flat. It also turned out that the air machine at the gas station was out of order. On top of that it turned out I snapped off two of the bolts as I tried to loosen the lug nuts. Finally, it turned out that no tire stores are open on Memorial Day.

May 27--Sometimes in our narrow hallway we do like this for a while.

So that's May 2009.

Caption Contest

We'll give a prize of some sort to whoever comes up with the funniest thought bubble to go above Rachel's head. Leave your entries in the comments. Contest ends August 1.
This is May 9 on a bike ride up Provo Canyon.

Jeff graduates.
